Review: 41062 Elsa's Sparkling Ice Palace

Come along with Anna and hop on her sleigh! We're going to Elsa's sparkling ice palace! And don't forget to say hello to Olaf!

The Lego Princess boxes are shaped like the Friends boxes, but with a glittery pink highlight. It features a big drawing of the set's characters, which makes it easily recognizable. The back shows details of the set's playability.

Here are the contents of the box: two instructions booklets, three numbered bags, one small white baseplate and one sticker sheet.

LET'S BUILD

There are a lot of accesssories, a cardboard box containing two different capes. We see Olaf's head, can't wait to build him!! There are two 1x1 green tecnic bricks, wich is quite enjoyable, since the new kind of headlight bricks (modified 1x1 brick w/ stud on side) do not exist in green. Just add a tecnic pin and there you have it!

We start with one of the minidolls (Laure: I have a feeling I write that quite a lot in my reviews!). Anna is holding her torch in her hand. Her top is absolutely gorgeous! Her hairpiece is fun, too. The ultimate best would have been to be able to take her cap on and off, or to have a spare piece with just the hair, like you can find in the Lego Friends horse riding characters. Also notable, her cape, made especially to fit minidoll figurines. The bad side of it is that although you can squeeze it on to a regular minifig, it might stretch out the holes in the long run.

We move on to Mister Olaf! It's a simple build with arms and button attached to a 1x1 brick with studs on four sides. It's not such a common piece, so it's nice to have. And the headpiece is just just too cool for words!! It looks great with that new kind of carrot. Instead of a regular one, it's actually an orange unicorn horn! (Jimmy: Ew, what's the pink ingredient in the sandwich??)

We now build the sleigh. We both agree that it looks pretty good, with the two lasso/whips in the back that those Indiana Jones fans might have from older sets. But we're both getting a little tired of seeing those pink modified flower plates on every corner of every set.

And onto the ice ramp. Ther is a mechanism to open and close it. Inside is hidden a cookie round tile. You never know if you might be a little hungry!

Here is what we get when we're finished with bag #1. Already this could have been a fun small set on it's own. But we're not finished yet!

Now for bag number 2. No figurines to build. We see pieces for the stairway in light aqua blue! Overall, a lot of pieces in turquoise tones of blue. A very different color scheme from what we've ever seen in a Lego set! Oh, and notice the lime green plant!

We shall start building the actual palace. The angular piece next to the baseplate gives the base an interesting shape. There's some kind of machine inside the glittery ice rock piece.

And it's an ice cream machine! How cute is the pair of mittens on the diagonal wall?

It's time to close off walls and build the second story, adding the stairway of course.

Here is what you get at the end bag #2. We love the stalactites dripping from the tree leaves. Too bad the tree looks unfinished, as usual.

Onto bag number three. Some more gliterry rock pieces, another minidoll, a whole bunch of accessories…

Here is Elsa, the star of the set, wearing a beautifull blue gown. Notice how the top and bottom are not the exact same color. I wonder if that's on purpose or not. Her cape is nice as well, full of super shiny glitter. But only on one side, though, as was Vitruvius' cape from the Lego Movie minifig.

Here we build the bedroom with a fancy bed and the crown neatly pinned onto a star plate. We can see how the top of the stairway ends. The upper piece doesn't quite go all the way under the blue baseplate. Unless you hold it in place. It's neat that you can fold and unfold the stairway, but it moves around a lot even when you don't want it to.

We then turn around to build the balcony and start closing off walls. Notice the lavender fence!

Here is the final piece that will go on top of the castle. There is a torch, a comfy cushion, and perhaps a love letter? The Chima/Mixel teeth plates add a wonderfull icy rock feel to the build.

Place the trans purple ice cristal all the way on top and here we are finished with bag #3.

Here is the final build with all of it's components and figurines. There are some nice spare parts. It seems minidoll sets (Friends, Disney Princess, and maybe even future Elves) always have a good amount of spares compared to other Lego themes. Maybe because Lego feels girls like to play with small accessories and those are easy to lose.

Now it's time to shamefully admit that neither of us has seen the animated film Frozen, so it's hard to say wether or not it's faithfull to the movie. But it surely seems that any Frozen fan will enjoy playing with this set.

PARTS

And now our favorite part when building any Lego set, what cool pieces are in there?!

Those are all the brand new pieces and colors.
- besides for Elsa's head, both minidolls are netirely new, as well as Olaf's headpiece
- in light aqua: all eight pieces for the stairway and three 1x4 tiles
- the big ugly rock piece now comes covered in glitter (Laure: not so ugly anymore, eh!)
- two really cool capes
- plant piece/leaf in lime
- in lavender: the fence, and those new 1x1 flower plates (new for 2015, but featured in other sets)
- one glitter rock piece/cristal
- two orange unicorn horns
- a pair of purple skis (Jimmy: NPU :P)
- and a magenta jumper (1x2 plate with 1 stud). Amazingly enough, the magenta jumper will now forever only have existed in its new version, with three antistuds on the bottom!!

Other neat parts include:

- medium lavender 1x2 slopes first appeared in the Lego Friends 2014 advent calendar, and Christmas was just last month!
- two 2x1x3 light aqua slopes
- more trans light blue 4L bars than you'll ever need (unless you're a Star Wars fan, then you already have plenty!!)
- trans light blue cheese slopes
- two modified 2x1 tiles with teeth
- 1x1 brick with 4 studs in white
- 2x2 magenta jumpers
- one Belleville part!! trans purple ice crystal/snowflake
- in reddish brown: 1x2 cheese slope, two Indiana Jones lassos, those ice cream swirls, two 2x1 curved slopes and some carrot tops!

Now if those pieces don't make you want to build something of your own right here and now, what will? ;-)
Cheers from Jimmy and Laure!
